Thailand History and Regional Facts
April 12th, 2010- Thailand can be separated into four geographical regions. In the north are mountain ranges and deep valleys in which are the sources of Thailand’s principal river, the Chao Phraya. The mountains are covered with forests of teak and evergreens. In central Thailand is the plain of the Chao Phraya. This is the most densely populated region, and it has the best farm land. In the east is the Khorat Plateau, a high, stony plain, where cattle, hogs, buffaloes and horses are farmed. The fourth region of Thailand is the part that lies on the Malay Peninsula, which is mountainous and contains the primary tin and other mineral deposits. The climate of Thailand is tropical. It is governed largely by the monsoon, a wind that blows from the southwest from May to November, bringing a warm, rainy season, and from the northeast from November to March, bringing a dry and cooler season. The months of April and May, between the monsoon seasons, are the hottest of the year. Thailand has many wild and bea…

Hotels in Patong and Whale Orgies in Thailand
April 10th, 2010- So it took a whale orgy to put things in perspective. These unbelievably powerful beasts, and not gentle giants are driven by instinct and totally oblivious to human desires. For those of you who love to get your feet wet, Patong near Phuket is the place to be and if you are looking for nature the sky’s the limit. Which is why me and some friends decided to take a chartered boat trip from Patong Thailand in search of whales. When I say chartered I do mean we got chatting to a fisherman who is friends with a member of staff at the accommodation we were staying at. We asked him in broken Thai and English if he’d be willing to take us out to look for whales. It came of course with the realization when we set off that morning that the idyllic tropical setting around Patong would not necessarily transfer to a sea of nothing but sea. Rough ocean agitated by relentless winds more like. The so called coral lagoons where mothers nurse newborn calves might instead be in the open ocean. Which …
Island Hopping in Thailand

Cruise ships, often a popular alternative for aspirant seafarers, also provide delightful holidays but with a pre-planned and highly structured itinerary, can prevent spontaneity and will inhibit travellers from seeing lesser known island destinations. The beauty of Yacht Charters is that while it is necessary to have a framework of an itinerary, this is not set in stone, and with the help of the Captain, visitors to Thailand are able to enjoy snorkelling off one pristine island, paddling in the bay of another and sipping cocktails on the beach of a third, all in the same day. Planning Your Itinerary It is important to take into consideration some of the activities in which you would like to partake. This will ensure that your destination islands are the best for your activities of choice. Visitors to Thailand usually find many activities to please them and these ran…

5 Things I Love About Living in Thailand
April 1st, 2010- I love having a poolI went down to the pool in my apartment building today after work and swam for a while. When I got back to my apartment, it struck me that having my own pool okay, I do share it with the other people in my building but I am usually in it by myself is one of the things I love about living here in Thailand. It is hot enough here in Bangkok that I can swim all year round. I am sure I’ll get to the stage that I feel it is too cold for that one month of the year when the temperature sits at around C F, but I have not acclimatised to that point yet.The pool in my building is maintained by the building manager’s staff and cleaned every morning. I can decide to go down there anytime and sunbathe not that I do this much, I’m a New Zealander and as such quite aware of the damage this can do, swim lengths or read a book in the shade. I love Thai foodThai food is very spicy, but has a balance of many flavours. Every meal is a gastronomic feast for your taste buds….
